Class Requirements

Age:

Students must be at least 18 years of age by the month of the class scheduled teach date.

 

Textbook:

Brady Emergency Care 11th edition. (The work book is not required)

 

Tuition policy:

The State of New York pays the tuition for all students who are affiliated with a Fire Department or Ambulance Corp.  A form must be filled out and signed by the students affiliation head and returned to the instructor by the second night of class.  For students that have not turned in their affiliation form or are without an affiliation, they will be responsible to pay the full non-refundable tuition and insurance of $825.00.  ($ 425.00 for refresher students) to Upstate Medical University.

 

Student Qualifications:

The student must have the ability to:
a) Communicate verbally by telephone and radio.
b) Interpret written, oral and diagnostic instructions.
c) Use good judgment and remain calm in high stress situations.
d) Be unaffected by loud noises and flashing lights.
e) Function efficiently throughout an entire work shift.
f) Calculate weight & volume ratios.
g) Read & write in English language.
h) Interview a patient, family member or bystander.
i) Document, in writing, all relevant information in prescribed format
j) Bend, stoop, and crawl on uneven terrain.
k) Withstand varied environmental conditions such as extreme heat, cold & moisture.
l) Work in low light and confined spaces.
m) Determine the nature and extent of illness and injury.
n) Take vital signs.
o) Lift, carry and balance up to 125 lbs.
